winner sunset sky

winner.

winner.

this track is called “winner.” by the way

it wasn’t planned. it just kind of leaked out after a stretch of silence, both the good kind and the heavy kind. you know the kind—where you’ve “moved on” but you’re still picking glitter out of your skin.

Bandcamp

tbh, i almost chucked this into the pile of unfinished projects, but one part of it kept coming back to me two days in a row…

this track started with a single lyric:
am i the winner after all
it felt like an almost unanswerable question. the project kept building around it. synth lines fell into place like remembering something. hopeful, bold drums break through appropriately to break the introspection.

it surges forward at 128 bpm
it’s melodic house, technically. emotionally? it’s whatever lives between “i’m fine” and actually i’m not sure i ever was.

if this track means something to you, awesome
wanted to put something out that didn’t pretend to be okay.

it’s called winner. with a period. sometimes that’s all there is at the end of something—just a full stop.

listen when you want.
dance if you feel like it.
stay if it hurts in a familiar way.

winner. Lyrics

am i the winner after all

after the last obstacle falls

and if im standing after this

what did i… win

it was all in front of me

it was all right there

don’t know how i missed it

 i don’t think i care

anymore

give me day to think on it

when you’re no longer there

i was addicted to your high

like someone who cared

am i the winner now?

i don’t think im the winner n ow

if im still thinking of you

if the goal is to win this race

why do i keep standing in this place

somehow

hopeful actions

overcome the pain

actually it’s gotten easier

each day apart from you

but i can’t lie

you always understood

am i the winner after all

after the last obstacle falls

and if im standing after this

what did i… win

well there’s no winner after all

burned to the ground we had it all

who am i now

we kept on dancing through the hits

what does it matter

when there’s a miss

and i love we keep equalizing

our own mix

am i the winner after all

after the last obstacle falls

and if im standing after this

what did i… win

lied when i said its easier

each day apart from you

but i cannot lie to myself

‘cause you always understood
