Until Now – Sunset Sky

Production continues to improve and this was one that after eight iterations I finally had to let go. It can be hard to send your creative out into the world. Picasso said something like work is never finished, only abandoned. I always hear something else that can be improved but it becomes time to move on and bring the next idea into being. It’s also a perfect parallel to life in the moment. There are plenty of positive changes but as a cynical optimist, as soon as I’m feeling happy, I begin waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Btw being happy is waaaaaay underrated, and for right now, that’s where I’m at. The music reflects this as #summervibes continue… Enjoy!

Until Now Lyrics

i put my face into the sunlight

like the day that you appeared

now poring over details of life

you were one that was always here

i never had

a chance with you

i never had

all my dreams come true

until now

you wanted to meet after midnight

please tell me that you’ll be there

we were only searching for life

for other lost souls out there

i never had

a chance with you

i never had

all my dreams come true

i never heard

the “i love you”

always said

it was misspent youth

until now

hold me closely

talk to me

we might need to hold on

can’t remember when we felt so free

until now

i never had

a chance with you

i never had

all my dreams come true

until now

i never heard

the “i love you”

always said

it was misspent youth

until now

Motion – Sunset Sky

“Thus marked a decided turn in Sunset Sky’s self-inflicted stylings as a poet of woe. This, instead my friends, is a ray of sunshine forcing shade into the corners it belongs. It is… summer.” (I need you to read that in a gravelly professor voice, slight proper english accent)

Have you ever woke up after a night of whatever you were doing and realize you met someone exciting and new? And it was fun, out of control brilliant but also, (sad part) you might never see this person again. Like, ever. So imagine, if after the party’s over, things have settled down and you’re looking at the mess you’re going to have to clean up when…

…you get the text

You know the text. The one that reaffirms your existence, your entire being and the one that matters – at the moment – literally more than anything in the world. The one that makes you rise up to praise entities you regarded with suspicion until now, and declare to the universe, I belieeeeve!

have you had a moment like that?

would you want to experience it again?

Hell yes you would and now you can because that’s what this song is about. It’s a celebration. It’s summer vibes, its pure warm uplifting breezy, and also, “Its got a good beat and you can dance to it.” haha.

So I hope you enjoy this start-o-summer ditty and let me know if it strikes any chords. (:

Motion Lyrics

Motion

i woke up this morning

feeling so free

it was like i was in a movie scene

i couldn’t believe it was you next to me

is this happening?

…let it sink in and remember to

breathe

it’s in motion

or

its e-motion

think its in motion

last night we celebrated

magic & dreams

maybe next morning the spell’s not what it seems

love will tear us apart

plays quiet in jest

everything seemed hurried when i came back…

and you’d already left

oh god it was so good to hold you

this might just blur some lines

but i promise to be there for you

every single time

it’s in motion

or

its e-motion

think its in motion

woke up that morning

and feeling so free

 it was like living in

a movie scene

notification badge pops up on screen

and the text read:

hey i missed you

we should hang out

again

well i promise to love you forever

and I’ll always hold the line

and i know that i’ll always be

there for you

every single time

I always promise to make you happy

if only its to make things right

im not some hero when i tell you…

i’ll always be there to hold you tight

i guess i really was afraid of your answer

that’s why i’m sometimes

on my own

think too much and every once in a while

life decides you

shouldn’t be alone

well i promise that i’ll love you forever

and want to always hold you tight

and i know that  i’ll be there for you

every single god damn time

it’s in motion

or

its e-motion

think its in motion

Take the Fall

“Take the Fall” is an exploration of friendship, heartbreak, and the lessons we learn through life’s tough moments.

Bandcamp

Take the Fall – Sunset Sky

Take the Fall was created during a tumultuous time. With an upended schedule, I have been fighting to re-insert music into part of the daily routine again. So, it’s been a bit, and I got picky with this one, which can sometimes be problematic, but let’s see what you think!

Take the Fall Lyrics

i’m aware you need to be with the stars

know it’s that kind of age

focused only on your own desires

wouldn’t expect anything else

but you said you’d always be a friend

learned a new lesson here

never thought that when i needed you most

you would all but disappear

so i’ll take the fall

i’ll take it all

i’ll take the fall

you know i’ve been played for the fool

unfortunately

maybe i’ll get past this one too

but when you see life like me

regrets become clear as day

know the mistakes already made

still I stuck by you when things got rough

and

you couldn’t do the same

why does it seem to happen to me

-why does it fall apart

so why does it have to end

always

with a broken heart

i hope it comes to us sooner

but no one’s holding our hand

all decisions we have made

and

have to live with

why does it seem to happen to me

-why does it fall apart

does it have to end

always

with  a broken heart

i’ll take the fall

this time ill take the fall

soaked from expected rain

in the end it was no one’s fault

coz no one else is left to blame

why does it happen to me

so why does it fall apart

does the story have to end

always

with a broken heart

Bandcamp

hi. by Sunset Sky

This one felt like polishing a turd for a long time. And maybe it still is, but I ended up liking the results, but again, it took a looooong time.

Reverb is my enemy sometimes. It can add a nice ethereal layer to your tracks, or it can turn them into complete mud, like my early experiments trying to paint with oil. BTW, the cover is a section of a painting of mine – acrylic on paper, part of my broken/breaking series.

About hi.

Introducing “hi.” a new dance pop track that delves into the complexities of past relationships and the enduring power of memories. With its beat and standout lyrics, “hi.” invites listeners on a journey through nostalgia and reflection.

The song begins with a simple greeting, “hi, what’s your name? You look like someone that I know, memories flood again.” As the rhythm builds, we’re drawn into a conversation between two people who share a history, grappling with emotions that refuse to fade.

Remember Me?

“Hi, remember me? I thought I had buried our past, but emotions run deep,” the lyrics confess, echoing the experience of confronting unresolved feelings. Amidst the catchy melody, questions linger: Do moments of our past still remain? Is there anything that stays unchanged?

Before the chorus sweeps in, the refrain in the second verse “Hi, how are you?” serves as a poignant reminder of the passage of time. Yet, even as one voice admits, “I’m just okay,” there’s an underlying acceptance and resilience, a refusal to dwell in regret.

Memories Resurface

Throughout the song, memories resurface, vividly depicted in lines like “I remember calling out your name, choking it down, and it was all in vain.” The honesty in the lyrics captures the essence of reminiscence, acknowledging the pain of letting go while yearning for a chance to relive the past.

In the bridge, the melody soars as the singer grapples with the reality of closure, recognizing that some doors once opened can never fully close. Yet, amidst the uncertainty, there’s a sense of empowerment, a declaration that the past may linger, but it will never define the future.

So, What is It All About?

With its irresistible blend of pulsating beats and heartfelt lyrics, “hi.” is more than just a dance floor anthem; it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of connection. So, let the music sweep you away as you embrace the past, the present, and the promise of what lies ahead.

Lyrics for hi.

hi

what’s your name

u look like someone that i know memories flood again

hi

remember me

i thought i had buried our past but emotions run deep

do moments of our past still remain

is there anything that stays unchanged

hi

how are you

you’re letting me know that you’re well and that you’re on the move

hi

i’m just ok

honestly dont regret falling in love anyway

(i remeber calling out your name

choking it down and it was all in vain

its hard to swallow memories remain

i only know that the past will never change)

all that time with you was really so insane

i only wish we could live it all again

it seems so hard when i remember that it’s over

do moments of our past still remain

is there anything that stays unchanged

i remember calling out your name

echoes bouncing off the ceiling once again

choke it down and try to swallow in vain

but i assure you that the past will never change

found myself at night calling out your name

not a dream and i know it sounds insane

when i wake up and couldn’t remember it’s over

i’m aware that we’ve opened up a door

we’ll never know if there was anything or more

only one way to ensure that its really over

i really don’t know now just how i should feel

when you say we’re out of time and it’s no longer real

but im assuring you the past is never over

Hold on Tight – Diving In

So, dance pop stands out as a genre that blends infectious melodies with relatable lyrics, creating an addictive listening experience. “Hold on Tight” captures the essence of contemporary pop while delving into emotion.

As a result, beats pulsate with energy and lyrics resonate with authenticity. “I’ve got to tell you, been thinking about you all day long,” sets the stage for a narrative of longing. Yearning to connect with someone special but grappling with uncertainty about where to begin.

A Journey of Heartache and Hope

As the song progresses, the intensity builds, fueled by: “You’ve got a stranglehold on me, can’t lie about it. I need you in every possible way.” These words encapsulate the almost grip of love, and the vulnerability that comes with opening one’s heart to another.

But amidst the whirlwind of emotions, there’s a sense of reassurance in the plea to “hold me closely, hold me tight.” It’s a reminder that even in moments of doubt, there’s solace to be found in the embrace of a loved one.

Moving On

Then, second verse of the song serves as a poignant reflection on the challenges of communication in matters of the heart. “Easy to speak, not easy to feel,” acknowledges the disparity between words and emotions.

Yet, in the uncertainty, there’s a glimmer of hope. “I’ll hold you closely if you hold us right, please hold me closely, well hold on tight,” encapsulates the essence of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. It’s a testament to the power of love to overcome obstacles and endure through trials of life.

Here We Go

“Hold on Tight” serves to remind us of the beauty and complexity of human connection, where emotions run deep, love knows no bounds amid highs and lows.

So, as you go back about your day, remember to hold on tight to the ones you love, for in their embrace, you’ll find solace, strength, and the courage to face whatever challenges may come your way.

And, the End

Let the track’s pulsating beats and lyrics wash over you and remember to hold on tight to the ones who matter most.

Hold on Tight – Lyrics

hold on tight

i’ve got to tell you

been thinking about you all day long

i want to know you

but don’t know exactly where to start

i can’t deny it

you’ve got a…

youv’e got a stranglehold on me

can’t lie about it

i need you in every possible way

then i hear your voice

and i hear your pain

know it all too well

hold me close to you again

just hold me closely

hold me tight

easy to speak

not easy to feel

you’ve got me in in your hands

what can i say…

maybe im just weak that way

but if you let me explain

i know you’ll understand

i know i’m out of line wth

all i hope for is to be with you my head goes on days…

i couldn’t tell you

exactly when or where or

how feelings got this way

then i hear your voice and i hear your pain

know it all too well

here it comes again

then i feel your voice and i feel your pain

know it all too well

hold me close to you again

i’ll hold you closely if you hold us right

please hold me closely well hold on tight

then i hear your voice

and i hear your pain

know it all too well

hold me close to you again

then i hear your voice and i hear your pain

know it all too well

here it comes again

then i feel your voice and i feel your pain

know it all too well

hold me close again

i’ll hold you closely if you hold us right

please hold me closely

well hold on tight

and then i hear your voice and i hear your pain

know it all too well

Go On: Encouragment and Perseverance

It’s easy to slip into routine and complacency, but there comes a time when discontent grows too loud to ignore. “Go On” a track of self-realization and renewal, encourages you to break free from conformity and embrace the authenticity of existence.

With the opening chords we’re drawn into a narrative of introspection and defiance. Once content to sleepwalk through life, now at a crossroads, grappling with the realization that existence has been built upon a foundation of falsehoods and pretense. Yet, amidst the turmoil of awakening, there’s a glimmer of hope—a sense of liberation that comes with shedding layers of deception and embracing the truth, no matter how harsh it may be.

“It was kind of nice for a while To sleepwalk through life Enter a world of fake smiles Then come home late at night”

These opening lines set the stage for a journey of self-discovery and resilience.

We acknowledge the allure of illusion, the comfort of conformity, but ultimately we need confront the futility of living a life built upon lies. It’s a sentiment that resonates deeply with anyone who’s ever felt trapped within the confines of societal expectations, yearning for something more but unsure of where to begin.

Yet, as the chorus erupts with defiant determination, a newfound sense of empowerment emerges:

“Well I go on It feels so good right now I’m finally free There’s nothing holding me back Except for me”

Here, amidst the driving rhythm and vocals, lies the heart of “Go On.”

It’s a rallying cry for those who refuse to be confined by the expectations of others, who dare to challenge the status quo and carve their own path forward. It’s a reminder that true freedom comes not from external circumstances, but from the courage to confront our inner demons and embrace the fullness our humanity.

Throughout the song, there’s a sense of catharsis—a release of pent-up emotions and a shedding of old skin. Acknowledging the losses incurred along the way, the friendships strained or severed in the pursuit of truth. Yet, amidst the wreckage, there’s a sense of gratitude for those who’ve played a role in their awakening:

“Thank you for waking me I can’t say enough It’s time to fight again The real world—can get rough”

These words serve as a testament to the transformative power of adversity, the crucible through which resilience is forged and character is tested. It’s a recognition that true growth often arises from the ashes of our past selves, as we emerge stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever before.

As the song draws to a close, there’s a sense of closure—a final reckoning with the ghosts of the past and a bold declaration of newfound purpose:

“I was going through the motions I finally know it now Brushing off the dust from my jacket Turn my back on what I’ve known”

In these lines, we find the essence of “Go On”—a testament to the power of self-awareness and the courage to embrace change. It’s a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there lies the seed of transformation, waiting to be nurtured and cultivated into something beautiful.

In the end, “Go On” represents hope for anyone who’s ever felt lost or disillusioned, a reminder that no matter how bleak the circumstances may seem, there’s always a light waiting to guide us home. So let us heed its call, embrace our awakening, and step boldly into the unknown, for it’s only in the journey of self-discovery that we truly find ourselves.

Go On Lyrics

130 BPM | C Major

it was kind of nice for a while

to sleepwalk through life

enter a world of fake smiles

then come home late at night

i’ve got to be honest here

it was ok for a time

but how long can you go on

living all those fucking lies

well i go on

it feels so good right now

i’m finally free

there’s nothing holding me back

except for me

it felt so predictable, its the end of the line

i’m getting outside

breaking out of a kind of hell

that was never mine

i think it ended well

thank you for waking me

i cant say enough

its time to fight again

the real world — can get rough

well i go on

i lost good people along the way

but here i stand

scraping off the shit ive stepped in

i hope you understand

life goes on

thank you for waking me

i cant say enough

its time to fight again

the real world — can get rough

was asleep half the time

and now im awake

a pleasant afterthought

to ignoring all the pain

i was going thru the motions

i finally know it now

brushing off the dust from my jacket

turn my back on what i’ve known

thank you for waking me

i cant say enough

its time to fight again

the real world — can get rough

Your Time Lyrics

you are the one that i love

that one that i know

you are so beautiful now

this is your world

this is your time

you’re becoming so used

to the glare of the light

another one gone

you’ve got the world at your feet

you have all that you need

so where do i fit now

more than two of us

can’t add more to your arc

you’re so fucking on fire

you’re so beautifully made

what are you going to do now

everything has a season

this is your time in the sun

there will always be a reason

you’re the only one

what do you do

when you’re the top of your game

in control of emotion

this is your world

others can hope

they can be there someday

but it’s hard in the moment

here in the silence

when the throne isn’t yours

not acknowledging more

that our fate’s been decided

your moment is growing

you can only move forward

you have a limited time

it’s like controlling the ocean

watching in fascination

i can hear the music

rising in your heart

you’re so fucking beautiful

it actually tears me apart

tears me apart

it tears me apart

everything has a season

this is your time in the sun

there will always be a reason

you were the only one

everyone gets their moment

you won’t always feel this way

the melody

in your heart

is so fucking beautiful

tears me apart

every single sign

in every single way

i know i’m out of time

i know im out of place

never want to let you go

but you must find your way

oh i wish you well

as you fade away

you’re so fucking beautiful

Get It Right by Sunset Sky
Thoughts on Get It Right

The chorus would not go away. It appeared one morning and humming it repeatedly i got it down in the DAW. My original intro for this read: “You are with someone you love and nothing you want to say comes out as intended. The track captures the moment with a memorable chorus, instead of the right words.” Which is exactly that. Sometimes the “right” words come out, other times not so much. I always wonder if that means no words were actually necessary and that certain moments are ok with silence, or, more likely, me just being socially awkward. (:

Anyway, this is a bit of a departure –again– from the sound and content of previous tracks but it was really cool how it came together. The vocals only took 4 million takes but worth it as they formed almost ad libbed to capture that truly “i have no idea what i am trying to say” spontaneous feeling. I really hope you enjoy.

Get It Right, Already

In the soft embrace of a moment alone “Get It Right” unfolds like a secret shared between souls, a melody that mirrors night fog. You hopefully find yourself transported to a space where the the language is unspoken love.

Embracing the Moment

The song is an amalgram of moments where words fail but emotions speak loudly. It’s a track dedicated to instances when the heart is full, expression is too much, and the search for the right words is replaced by a shared silence that resonates deeper than conversation.

Soundtrack of The Perfect Night

With a catchy chorus, “Get It Right” becomes a soundtrack to those nights where time stops and the only agenda is to hold each other tightly and sway under the stars to a faint melody. The lyrics, a struggle to articulate feelings, mirror the sentiment of those who may find solace in the silent understanding that transcends the need for words.

Getting the Simplicity Right

The song embodies simplicity, capturing the beauty of the moment without unnecessary embellishments. The reoccurring and self-aware Sunset Sky introspection is laid bare, echoing raw and genuine emotions.

Discover Get it Right for Yourself

For those discovering “Get It Right” for the first time, the song invites you into a world where love is felt, even when words fail. It’s a melody for the soul, and for those seeking solace in unspoken glances and held hands. Enjoy.

Get it Right Lyrics

get it right

do you ever feel

like you’re just not there

the words you say

no one cares

or it’s just the wrong thing to say

you can’t seem to connect

you try anyway

it still doesn’t make sense

is it the way i talk

i can’t do anything right

can never say what i mean

why do i even try

i switch to something else

something light

cause i want to

connect you and i

yes i’m always talking

but i am always listening

why can’t i seem to get it right

the words come out

different than i

ever meant them to sound

even alone with you tonight

even though i can’t say what i mean

you nod silently and listen to me

the beautiful thing you understand

you look in my eyes and hold my hand

yes i’m always talking

but i am always listening

why can’t i seem to get it right

the words come out

different than i

ever meant them to sound

even alone with you tonight

i don’t know

how to say

i just love you

in every way

yes i’m always talking

but i am always listening

why can’t i seem to get it right

the words come out

different than i

ever meant them to sound

while i say i love you tonight

Time to Go Home – Sunset Sky

This was an interesting track. It might be the last of the heartbreak series. They’ve run their course and have helped define a period of songwriting where we saw better mixing and mastering skills emerge. We’ll see what comes next!

Unveiling the Heartfelt Narrative

The lyrics begin with a subtle touch, describing a moment of hesitation and distance. “When I reached for your hand, you pulled away with a start,” sets the tone for the rollercoaster that follows. Small talk is aknoeldeged, yet deep down, a profound understanding of the partner’s heart is apparent.

The Inevitability of Change

The chorus echoes the sentiment that this is not the end of the story, introducing a theme of hope and acceptance. As the narrative unfolds, we witness the speaker making room for a new friend and battling with the realization that their connection is shifting. The lines “All I ever wanted was to see you smile, and we will always roam” express the desire for happiness and the acknowledgment of a journey that may take unexpected turns.

Longing for Home

Amidst the pulsating beats and rhythm of the dance track, the lyrics take a poignant turn. The singer longs to hold their partner closer, reflecting on the transformation of their initial aspirations into a simple wish – to go home. The repetition of the phrase “I just want to go home” resonates with the universal feeling of seeking comfort and solace in familiar spaces.

Time to Go Home – Lyrics

a minor bpm 123

when i reached for your hand

you pulled away with a start

making pleasant small talk

but i know your heart

its not the end of the story

well i’ve been making room for your new friend

know i shouldn’t say it again

but you’re coming home in the morning

at 4am

all i ever wanted was to see you smile

and we will always roam

just wanted to hold you closer

now i just want to go home

i just want to go home

i’ve given all i can give now

and it’s more than enough

never a good time to let go

but i’m losing our touch

oh i know when it’s over

but i can never back down

know i’ll let go on my last breath

or maybe it’s time to go down

all i ever wanted was to see you smile

we will always roam

wanted to hold you closer

now i just want to go home

i want to go home

all i wanted was your happiness

but i was not alone

now i’m left standing in silence

maybe its time to go home

all i ever wanted was to see you smile

we will always roam

wanted to hold you closer

now i just want to go home
